Kitchens in Mission Bay, Auckland | MTN Kitchens
23+ years in trade · 2,000+ kitchens supplied & installed across Auckland · Laminex NZ fabricator
Mission Bay is a straight run along the eastern bays from our East Tamaki workshop, so when you go with MTN Kitchens you are dealing with the people who actually build your kitchen - not a showroom that marks up the price and sends the job to a subcontractor.
We manufacture every kitchen ourselves in East Tamaki and install it with our own Site Safe team, so you get one crew who own the job from the first measure to the last handle. Because there is no showroom floor to pay for, you get proper trade pricing on the same cabinetry and Laminex NZ finishes the big-name places sell.
Use our free online 3D designer to lay out your ideas, and we will have a firm, itemised quote back to you within 24 hours. Once you are ready, most kitchens are on site and installed inside 5 to 7 days.
What we do in Mission Bay
Renovating the classic Mission Bay bungalow
The streets running back from the beach - Patteson Ave, Selwyn Ave, Marau Cres and around - are full of 1920s and 30s bungalows with the original narrow, closed-off kitchen tucked at the back. We open these up into the living areas and rebuild them in durable 2-pac or Melteca finishes that keep the character of the home but work like a modern kitchen.
Apartment and walk-up flat kitchens
Mission Bay has a lot of mid-century walk-up flats and newer apartments near Tamaki Drive and Kepa Road. These are tight, load-in-restricted spaces, so we build to exact measurements in the workshop, plan the install around building access and body corporate rules, and get in and out fast with minimal mess.
Premium coastal renovations
Plenty of homes up the slopes towards Kohimarama and Orakei have been rebuilt or extended to make the most of the sea views. We do the high-end end of the market - engineered stone or natural stone benchtops, full-height cabinetry, integrated appliances and butler's pantries - built to a standard that suits a premium coastal home.
Updating 60s-70s brick-and-tile units
There is a solid layer of 1960s and 70s brick-and-tile units and cross-lease homes through the flatter parts of the suburb. We strip out the tired original cabinetry and reconfigure the layout into something open and practical, without the cost of a full structural rebuild.
Local context
Mission Bay covers a real range of housing for such a compact suburb. The flat streets close to the beach and the fountain hold 1920s and 30s bungalows and Spanish-style homes, many now heavily renovated, while a good chunk of the suburb is mid-century flats and apartments - the art-deco era blocks and 60s-70s walk-ups that sit between Tamaki Drive and Kepa Road.
Up the rise towards Kohimarama and St Heliers you get into the bigger renovated homes and rebuilds chasing the harbour and Rangitoto views, which is where a lot of the premium coastal work sits. Closer to Orakei and the Ngapipi end there is a mix again, from original cross-leases to modern architectural builds.
Because so many of these homes are either heritage-era or in apartment blocks with access and body corporate constraints, accurate measuring and off-site manufacturing matter more here than in a standard suburb. We build the whole kitchen in East Tamaki, so the disruptive part on site is short - which is exactly what you want in a bungalow you are living in or an apartment with a shared lift and stairwell.

Frequently asked questions
Do you cover Mission Bay and the surrounding eastern bays?
Yes. Mission Bay is an easy run from our East Tamaki workshop and we cover it along with Kohimarama, St Heliers, Orakei, Meadowbank, Glendowie, Remuera and the whole of Auckland.
Can you do kitchens in apartments and walk-up flats?
Yes, and we do a lot of them in Mission Bay. We build to exact measurements in the workshop and plan the install around building access, lift and stairwell restrictions and body corporate requirements, so it is quick and tidy on the day.
How long does a Mission Bay kitchen take?
After the measure and sign-off, most kitchens are manufactured and installed within 5 to 7 days. We will give you firm dates with your quote so you can plan around it - important if you are living in the home or in an apartment block.
Why are your prices lower than the showroom brands?
Because we manufacture your kitchen ourselves in East Tamaki and install it with our own team, there is no showroom overhead or subcontractor margin added on. You get the same Laminex NZ finishes and cabinetry at genuine trade pricing.
What benchtops and finishes can I choose from?
The full range - engineered stone, natural stone, laminate and timber-look, with 2-pac painted or Melteca doors. For premium coastal renovations we do natural stone, integrated appliances and butler's pantries. As a Laminex NZ fabricator we can match your finishes to real, current decors, not guesswork.
Can I design my kitchen before getting a quote?
Yes. Our free online 3D designer lets you lay out your Mission Bay kitchen and try different finishes at your own pace. Send it through and we will have a firm, itemised quote back to you within 24 hours.
