What we need to price it off drawings

• The plan, with dimensions — run lengths in millimetres. A sketch with real numbers beats a beautiful drawing without them.
• Material, colour and finish — laminate, timber, engineered or natural stone, and the decor or slab already selected.
• Edge profile — square, pencil-round, bullnose, double bullnose, waterfall. The edge is worked by the metre and moves the price more than people expect.
• Curves and radius corners — marked on the plan, because they change both labour and slab waste.
• Cutouts — sink type (undermount, drop-in or integral), tap holes, cooktop, waste.
• Joins you will accept — long runs, corners, and the doorways and stairs the top has to physically get through.
• Access and level — stairs, lifts, tight corners, and whether the cabinetry is level. A benchtop is only as flat as what it sits on.

Why two benchtop quotes are rarely the same product

If the job is out to several suppliers, the cheapest number is only useful once you know everyone priced the same top. Check that every quote carries the same edge profile, the same cutouts, the same join positions, and that template and install are in or out of all of them consistently. On a replacement, ask who removes and disposes of the old top. Then ask how each supplier handles a variation if the site measure differs from the plan — a quote off drawings is an estimate until someone templates.

Scope, plainly

We make cabinetry and benchtops. That means benchtop manufacture, supply and installation, every edge profile including bullnose, double bullnose and curved work, the cutouts, and the sink itself supplied and fitted into the top. Appliances, tapware, plumbing and electrical work are supplied and done by others — saying so up front saves a variation later, and means the cutouts land exactly where your plumber and electrician need them.

Common questions

Can you quote benchtops from plans before the cabinets are in?

Yes — that is the normal way a benchtop job gets priced. Send the cabinetry plan with run lengths in millimetres, the material and colour, the edge profile, any curves, and what is being cut into it. The number firms up at template, once the cabinets are physically in and level.

Why is the benchtop templated after the cabinetry is installed?

A benchtop is cut to the room, not to the drawing. Walls are rarely square, runs move a few millimetres during install, and a scribe has to follow the wall it meets. Templating after the cabinets are fixed is what stops a gap along the back of a finished kitchen.

What is a double bullnose edge?

A bullnose rolls the front edge into a half-round; a double bullnose rolls both the top and bottom arrises so the edge reads as a full rounded nose. It takes more passes to shape and polish than a square edge, so it costs more per metre — worth naming explicitly so every quote prices the same thing.

Do curved benchtop sections cost more?

Yes, for two reasons. Cutting and polishing a curve is slower and less forgiving than a straight run, and a curve is cut from a rectangular slab, so the material around it is usually waste you have still paid for. Mark curves on the plan so the prices you compare include them.

Can you fit benchtops to cabinetry someone else installed?

Yes. Plenty of our benchtop work goes onto cabinets a builder or another joiner installed. We ask that the cabinetry is fixed, level and finished before we template — and if something is out of level we say so before we cut, not after.

Do you supply the sink and the tap?

We supply and install the sink and cut it into the benchtop. We do not do taps or plumbing work — the tap, the connections and anything behind the wall are your plumber's, and we make sure the cutouts are where they need them.
